everyone please say THANK YOU to your alterationis everyone please say THANK YOU to your alterationist 😅

after around 2 months of starting to offer professional alteration services to a few of my family and friends, i can now appreciate the time and work that goes into altering garments. it is all hard work that pays off in the end if we can wear out garments for a longer time, and avoid throwing them out after our bodies change, passing our garments off to other people, or buying something without trying it on!
—
and if you don’t have an alterationist right now and are looking for one, my services are opened! dm or contact me for more info 😄

this artwork was created to induce viewers in creative reflection on a wearers dress. based on the semiotics of fashion, a theory from roland barthes, dress in the 21st century is a reflection of the wearer’s psyche. but what are the implications from society that affect this psyche to determine what we wear? when looking at these images, i would like viewers to think about 1) when they would encounter someone wearing these clothes , 2) what interactions would they have with them , if any? and 3) what are their first assumptions about them?
•••
it is important to reflect on these dress stereotypes , because we may have subconscious connotative thoughts towards some of these forms of dress. i have created this piece with theories of objectification of the body , and the relationship between formal garments and abstract processing in mind. i implore you to think about the questions above , and ask yourself why you had the primary response you did. let me know what you think below and please feel free to dm me with comments as well ! : )
